Call for Paper: Virtual Special Issue on Exploration of Marine Resources: Gas Hydrate, Oil and Gas (EMR)

The natural gas hydrate and hydrocarbon resources in marine environment have huge potential. At present, the global methane resource of natural gas hydrates is roughly estimated to be 2×1016 m3, which is two orders of magnitude larger than that of the conventional recoverable natural gas resource (ca. 2×1014m3). Moreover, the offshore hydrocarbon production comprises ca. 34% of the total hydrocarbon production worldwide. It is of great significance to study the accumulation characteristics, microscopic characteristics, and reservoir evaluation of marine gas hydrate and hydrocarbon. In recent years, with the advancement of geological theory, coring and drilling technology, numerical simulation technology, etc., many new advances have been made in the exploration of marine gas hydrate and hydrocarbon in recent years.

This special issue hopes to collect high-level research results on the geology, geophysics, and geochemistry of offshore gas hydrate and hydrocarbon. The main body of the paper collection includes but not limited to:

  • Accumulation characteristics
  • Formation evaluation based on well logging
  • Geophysical inversion technology
  • Geochemical analysis related to marine resources
  • Rock physics, petrophysics and rock mechanics experiment
  • Digital core reconstruction method and numerical simulation technology
  • New concepts, theories, methods, experiments, and techniques
  • Artificial intelligence assisted algorithms
